| Portugal's most significant contribution thus far to the metal community, Moonspell have transcended their early Death Metal sound to a brand of Gothic/Doom metal similar to bands such as Tiamat, Katatonia, and The Gathering. Frontman Fernando Ribeiro alternates between a vampiric baritone and occasional deathish growls as the music flows from crushing dirges to mid-paced, riff-heavy rockers.
