Wolfram is a technical thrash band that has been slogging away at delivering quality metal since the early 1980s. Formed in 1983 by guitarists Roman Krokus Kríz and Frantisek Jordák as a cover band playing across Czechoslovakia, Wolfram underwent many lineup changes before finally disbanding at the end of the decade. Roman and Frantisek persisted, recruiting drummer Petr Sanda and recording a demo of original material. Their debut full-length, Sál Casu (meaning "Hall Of Time"), was firmly grounded in classic Bay Area thrash with exceptional guitarwork by Kríz. Being somewhat of a guitar hero in his native Czech Republic, Kríz has contributed to several metal guitar compilations in addition to his work with Wolfram. As the main songwriter, Kríz began to introduce more technical, progressive elements on Misanthrope. Unfortunately, new singer Milan Fiala didn't have the pipes to go along with the soild musicianship found in the rest of the band. Current shrieker Petr Doldy Dolének came along on Liars In A Second Skin, as the technical guitarwork of Kríz increased, bringing the band to their current level of blistering metal. Even if they are perhaps a bit too technical at times for my taste, there's no question that Wolfram kicks ass and all fans of both classic and technical thrash ought to give these guys a listen.
