TimeMage is not a heavy metal band in the traditional sense, but is more a creative outlet for founder Stefan Schenkel. A huge fan of film scores and progressive metal, Stefan composes his material on the keyboards and then brings in session musicians to record the material. The concept can be compared to Arjen Lucassen's project Ayreon. As one would expect, progressive elements abound and the music relies heavily on keyboards for atmosphere and melody. Fans of mildly technical prog metal, as well as those who are fond of symphonic metal, may find TimeMage an interesting discovery.
