Tiamat   Origin: Sweden     This page updated 05.22.04   Tiamat has come to be defined by their groundbreaking album Wildhoney, which is held in the same regard as Paradise Lost's Gothic in terms of the establishment of the Gothic metal genre. Prior to this 1994 masterpiece, Tiamat was a pretty straightforward death metal band fronted by the imaginative Johan Edlund. With each successive post-Wildhoney album, Edlund has carried Tiamat further from the death metal roots and embraced a style that is atmospheric, somber, and wholly Gothic in nature. A leader of the genre, the band has yet to fail in providing noteworthy albums sure to appeal to fans of dark, atmospheric metal.
