The Italian melodic metal outfit Scarecrown was formed in 2003 by stunning frontwoman Antonella and guitarist Andrea "The Ogre", but a long search for the right drummer and bass player resulted in their first release not seeing the light of day until 2004. Their modern metal sound is comprised of thick, chunky riffs that vary between a pondering doom feel and an aggressive drive. Atop the heavy sound is the voice of Antonella, sultry and to the point. She struggles in the upper ranges, however, which results in a few awkward moments. Scarecrown will appeal to fans of female-fronted metal with hints of Goth and doom.
