An Italian metal band named Elvenking implies symphonic power metal (aka Happy Metal) of the cheesiest sort. To the contrary, the music of Elvenking blends folk melodies with power metal and thrash in a style quite similar to folk metal pioneers Skyclad. Prominent guitars combined with traditional instruments like the violin and flute, topped off by mid- to high-range vocals, define the band's sound. Original vocalist Damnagoras departed the band in 2002 due to health reasons and was replaced on tour by none other than Martin Walkyier of Skyclad. For their sophomore album, Elvenking not only introduced new vocalist Kleid but also increased the emphasis on the power metal elements of their music, placing them more in the realm of bands such as Falconer and Dark Moor. Still on the rise, Elvenking is a band that will appeal to all fans of folk-inspired power metal.
