Cold, grim, blasphemous, and above all else raw are the traits one comes to expect from this particular style, and Darkthrone deserves credit for forsaking any deviation of their sound in order to uphold their vision. Beginning life as a death metal band in 1987, Darkthrone embraced the rawest form of black metal after the release of Soulside Journey. Continuously shunning the media coverage that is inherent with being a genre-leading band, Darkthrone strives to remain "underground" despite the success of their albums.
