Dark Fortress (not to be confused with the German Black Metal band of the same name) formed in 1998 and released their self-financed debut two years later. Featuring fairly straight-forward traditional metal elements akin to Judas Priest, Grave Digger, and Manowar, the band unfortunately suffered from a vocalist not quite suited to a melodic metal style. The downfall of many a metal band, this obstacle may have contributed to the demise of Dark Fortress as well. The band folded in 2005, with all members save Torsten Herbert moving on to form Dragonsfire.
