Founded by '80s hair metal icons Nikki Sixx and Tracii Guns, Brides of Destruction is a band that embraces the raunchiness and punk-infested attitude of L.A. glam metal as its musical foundation, but infuses their guitar-driven hard rock with modern edginess and melody. Nikki Sixx, founder and main songwriter of Mötley Crüe, was the creative force behind the music but departed the band after the first release to rejoin his former bandmates when the Crüe reunited. The songs on the debut album have a contemporary sound that would be right at home on rock radio next to the likes of Puddle Of Mudd and Blink 182. What keeps Brides of Destruction apart from the multitudes of clone bands on the radio today is the skillful guitar playing of Tracii Guns. With the six-string at the forefront of the songs, the band shows that they can play and not have to rely on the downtuned muddle of today's nu-metal crowd. While not great, Here Come The Brides was a strong debut from a band that I had hoped would remain more than a project. Alas, 2006 saw Tracii Guns depart the band which likely signals the end of the Brides.
