Goth Metal masters Beseech formed in 1992 near Gothenburg, Sweden. After a track appeared in 1994 on the "Sometimes Death Is Better" compilation from Shiver Records, the band churned out three demo recordings and finally secured a contract with We Bite Records in 1995. The band recorded ...From A Bleeding Heart but their label couldn't procure the financial resources to release the album. In 1998 Metal Blade signed the band and released their debut to positive reviews. Shortly after, bass player Andreas Wiik and drummer Morgan Gredaker left the band and a short-lived period of line-up chaos existed. Once things settled with the addition of Jonas Strömberg behind the kit and Daniel Elofsson on bass, the band signed to the Pavement label and released Black Emotions. While staying solidly in the Gothic genre with deep and clean male vocals accented by haunting harmonies, Beseech expanded their experimentation and broadened their sound on their sophomore effort. Vocalist Jorgen Sjoberg then left the band and was replaced by Erik Molarin for their third release, Souls Highway. This album, though terribly underexposed, is as near to a perfect Goth Metal album as I've heard in a long time. The beautiful voice of Lotta Höglin is more prominent than was Anna Andersson's on the debut, and Erik's voice is on par with the likes of Peter Steele of Type O Negative. Subsequent albums have been solid, quality Gothic metal/rock but without the impact of Souls Highway. Fans of TON, Tiamat, and Paradise Lost will find much to like about Beseech.
