Sporting a lineup that is a veritable who's who of the Polish extreme metal scene, Behemoth has come to be one of the most significant outfits of the death metal genre. Formed by Nergal in 1991 as a raw black metal outfit, the band's sound has gradually morphed (beginning with Satanica) into a vicious death metal style with hints at their early black metal roots. Somewhat melodic in nature, the music of Behemoth relies more on brutality and aggression than melody and experimentation.
