Atrocity   Origin: Germany     This page updated 02.22.05   This veteran death metal band has had a remarkably varied career yet still manages to remain a fixture in the metal scene 15 years after the release of their first album. Starting life as a fairly straightforward death metal band with a sharp technical edge, Atrocity first delved into their experimental wanderings with Calling The Rain, an album featuring the vocals of Alex Krull's sister. That same year (1995), Atrocity teamed up with German techno outfit Das Ich to record Die Liebe. The pinnacle of the band's innovativeness came with Werk 80, an album of covers featuring songs from such '80s pop icons as Tears For Fears and Duran Duran. More recently, however, the band has returned to a more conventional melodic death metal sound featuring black and Gothic metal elements. One noteworthy side project features all of the members of Atrocity in the band Leaves Eyes, fronted by Krull's wife and former Theatre of Tragedy frontwoman Liv Kristine.
